As a healthcare provider it is important to have a flow of young people who may be interested in pursuing a career as either an Optometrist or Audiologist. By engaging with local schools, we have been able to offer skills development in young people from the age of 14 years through on site learning in a safe environment. We encourage work placements as the best opportunity to explore the benefits of pursuing a career in this sector whilst promoting equality of opportunity.

I started my career in hairdressing on the Youth Training Scheme in the mid 80’s when careers advise was aimed towards further education or more traditional choices. My passion and ambitions were realised through hairdressing and owning a business. At Saks we continue to find that work-related learning directly contributes to helping young people develop functional skills and consider all alternative sectors to work in. Who at the age of 14 years can be fully expected to know what they want to do? RATH will present opportunities to get a taster in a broad spectrum of disciplines.
