We will make Ripon a better place for you to do business in and for your customers to enjoy.

What is a BID

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a business-led and business funded organisation formed to contribute to the improvement of a defined geographical area.

BIDs provide additional or improved services over and above those provided by the Council and give local businesses the opportunity to influence the long-term economic development of the place where they operate. This could include extra safety, cleaning and environmental measures as well as events, place shaping, business support and enhanced marketing and promotion for the businesses and the area.

How is it funded?

BIDs are funded by a mandatory levy on all eligible businesses after a successful ballot. The levy is based on rateable value and is payable in addition to business rates. All businesses in the area (subject to the BID levy rules) must pay the levy for the period the BID is in existence. There is also a voluntary membership scheme.

National Accreditation from The BID Foundation

The BID Foundation’s Industry Standards was awarded to Ripon BID in recognition of its standards of transparency and responsible governance, following an independent review process. Ripon BID has passed the Industry Standards accreditation by demonstrating the high standards of aspects including its business plan, governance mechanisms and reporting, Directors and personal interests, and detail on ballot results.  See for more information
