Ripon photography exhibition attracts almost 300 visitors

Ripon City Photographic Society’s 2026 Annual Exhibition welcomed almost 300 visitors for a celebration of photography and local creative talent.

Held over the Bank Holiday weekend, the Annual Exhibition showcases the breadth of photography being produced by Ripon City Photographic Society (RCPS) members, from
landscapes and wildlife to people, architecture and more creative approaches to image making. This year the exhibition featured 140 prints and 78 digital projected images from 32 photographers, giving visitors the opportunity to explore a wide range of photographic styles and subjects.

Attracting nearly 300 visitors (297) a record 226 visitors cast votes for their favourite images. The top three prints chosen by visitors were Sunken Cellarium by Helen Tabor,
Appleby Fair by Bill Pilkington and Black Crested Tit Lift Off by Alistair Peterson. In the digital image section, Harvest Keepers by Peter Rushton took the top spot, followed
by Coming Up for Air by Helen Tabor and Buttermere by Peter Rushton. Congratulations to Helen, Bill, Alistair and Peter.

Guest speaker Simon Hill CPhot FRGS and HonFRPS, who also opened the show, attracted a full room for his brilliant talk. The exhibition also welcomed the Mayor and Mayoress of
Ripon, who continue to show their support for the Society and its annual event.

Bill Swan, President of RCPS commented “We were delighted to welcome almost 300 people to this year’s exhibition. What makes the day particularly enjoyable is seeing people
really engage with the photography – discussing the images, choosing their favourites and spending time discovering the huge variety of work produced by our members.
“The exhibition is very much a team effort, from everyone who enters their work to the members, friends and families who help with setting up, welcoming visitors and keeping
everything running throughout the day. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make this year’s exhibition such a success.”
