A great-value family day out is just a bus ride away this summer, with children able to visit Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal for just £1 when arriving by bus

Running from 18 July to 6 September 2026, the offer allows children and young people under 18 to visit for £1 when they arrive by bus and show a valid bus ticket on the day of travel. Children under five continue to visit free of charge. The offer is available on any bus service that stops at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, and families can use it as many times as they like throughout the summer holidays.

Getting to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal by bus is easier than ever. Thanks to increased services throughout the school holidays, visitors can enjoy several drop-offs and pick-ups at the visitor centre each day, alongside existing routes serving Ripon, York, Harrogate, Boroughbridge, Pateley Bridge and the surrounding area. The increased service gives families much greater flexibility to plan a day out without needing to rely on a car.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy a packed programme of family activities as part of the National Trust’s Summer of Play. Each day of the school holidays is full of family fun featuring games, soft archery, balance bikes, space hopper races and exciting Pokémon-themed activities, including a Pokémon Trading Card Game Mega Evolution Trail. Plus, the enormous abbey ruins and acres of water gardens to explore and an adventure playground to race around and burn off even more energy.

Justin Scully, General Manager at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, said:

“We’re really excited to be offering £1 child admission for young visitors arriving by bus this summer. Not only does it help make family days out more affordable, but with more bus services stopping directly at the visitor centre, it’s never been easier to leave the car at home and enjoy a day out together. Combined with our Summer of Play activities and hundreds of acres of beautiful landscape to explore, we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors for a summer packed with fun.”

Visitors simply need to show their bus ticket at admissions on arrival to receive the discounted child entry. The offer is valid only on the day of travel and applies exclusively to visitors arriving by bus.
