Preparation for Winter Tree Planting

Clearing vegetation and ground surface for upcoming tree planting.

Bring your own gloves but tools will be provided.

Exciting news. We are planning to undertake a major tree planting exercise this winter and will need as much help as we can get on the dates below.

We are aiming to plant just under half a hectare of trees (<5000 square metres)

The key dates are:
Saturday 4th November. 1pm: Preparing ground for planting.
Wednesday 8th November. 10.30am: Preparing ground for planting
Friday 24th November. 10.00am: Small trees planting (50)
Friday 8th December. 10.00am: Whip Planting (900)
Some of then trees to be planted are:
Field Maple (Acer campestre)
Alder (Alnus glutinosa)
Hazel (Corylus avellana)
Holly (Ilex aquifolium)
Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris)
Wild Cherry (Prunus avium)
Bird Cherry (Prunus Padus)
Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia)
Further dates will be added if needed to complete the work.
We know that weekdays will be hard for some people but we have found that attendance for volunteering is often better for weekdays and with so many more people working at weekends there is no best day to plan such activities.
These sessions have been planned around the availability of those with the required knowledge and skills to lead the activities.
Each date has a start time and work will continue for as long as we have volunteers available or there is work to complete. This doesn’t mean you need to be able to stay for hours. Whatever time you have available we will gratefully make use of it.
