Ripon Minor Injury Unit

The Minor Injury Unit (MIU) at Ripon Community Hospital provides an alternative to our Emergency Department. The MIU usually has shorter waiting times than the Emergency Department and can help reduce the strain on our emergency services. These services are drop-in services.

Ripon Minor Injury Unit

If you have a recent injury, our staff at the MIU can, in most cases, help and advise. If we’re unable to deal with your injury, we will advise and direct you to the most appropriate service.

Appropriate presentations include:

• Sprains and strains
• Broken bones
• Wound infections
• Minor burns and scalds
• Minor head injuries
• Insect and animal bites
• Minor eye injuries
• Injuries to the back, shoulder, and chest

The MIU cannot treat:

• Minor illness
• Chest pains
• Breathing difficulties
• Major injuries
• Problems usually dealt with by a GP
• Stomach pains
• Gynaecological problems
• Pregnancy problems
• Allergic reactions
• Overdoses
• Alcohol-related problems
• Mental health problems
• Conditions likely to require hospital admission

Please note: Free car parking is available at Ripon Minor Injuries Unit.

Our Minor Injury Unit is staffed by a small team of urgent care practitioners (highly experienced staff with specialist minor injury training) and healthcare assistants.

The Unit is open 8am-6pm, seven days a week. X-ray facilities are available between 8.30am-4.30pm on weekdays. Outside these times we can still assess your injury, but may transfer you to an Emergency Department if you require an X-ray.
