Ripon Cathedral has embarked on an incredible milestone, celebrating over 1350 years since its consecration by St Wilfrid in 672AD.
The Anglo-Saxon Crypt is all that remains of Wilfrid’s original basilica church, but this remarkable space is the oldest building of any English Cathedral. Even more remarkably, it still in use today – a place of prayer and reflection at the heart of this historic place.
Wilfrid’s passion was to lay strong foundations of the Christian church in the Pagan Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, and he became one of the most influential and pioneering leaders.

Experience Evensong
Choral Evensong is a beautiful choral service, held at the start of most evenings. It is the perfect time for contemplation after a busy day. With minimal participation, Evensong allows listeners to enjoy a reflective, quiet atmosphere with world-class music ringing around the cathedral.
Children’s Church and Worship
Two age-specific groups have been carefully designed to help children explore faith through fun, creativity and worship:
Mustard Seeds (ages 0–6, with parents/carers or any primary child who enjoys this style)
Taking place in the Cathedral Library, Mustard Seeds offers younger children the chance to worship through singing, storytelling and craft. Families gather after the first hymn and re-join the main congregation in time for Holy Communion.
Mighty Trees (ages 7–11)
Meeting in the Chapel of the Resurrection, Mighty Trees is a lively space for worship with games, stories and activities inspired by the theme of the day. Children can be dropped off from 10.15am before the main Sunday service begins.
