Ripon BID lobbying on your behalf
Following the 2026 revluation of rateable values, and the latest budget many Ripon businesses – particularly pubs – have seen their predicted business rates from 1st April 2026 rise substantially.
This is due to a rise in rateable values and the abolition of the RHL 40% relief that applied in 2025/2026.
Ripon BID has been in touch with both CAMRA and the Pubs Advisory Service alongside lobbying our MP Sir Julian Smith.
Following lobbying from Ripon BID Sir Julian raised the matter in Parliament yesterday and today we received the following via email:
“Thank you for your email about steep business rate increases for local hospitality venues following the 2026 revaluation.
Today in the Commons, I urged the Treasury to look again business rates relief and multipliers as pubs, restaurants and hotels.
Nonetheless, I note the concerns you have raised and I have sent an email to the Chancellor on the BID’s behalf to express your concerns whilst not mentioning the names of the businesses noted in your email.
I will write to you again as soon as a response is received.”
Ripon BID will continue to lobby on behalf of our hospitality sector. We would urge you to check your revaluation here: https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/business-rates-find/search From 1st April you will be able to Check, Challenge & Appeal your valuation – more information from our website can be found here
Information on the campaigns by CAMRA can be found here and those of the Pubs Advisory Service here.
