Rejoicing in Ripon: Ripon Classic Car Gathering
🚗Ripon Classic Car Gathering raises much-need funds for seven good causes
Ripon Racecourse was once more the venue for an annual event which, over the years, has raised more than £200,000 for charities that serve the city and the wider North Yorkshire area.
The 31st Ripon Classic Car Gathering brought a thousand classic cars, motorcycles, tractors and commercial vehicles, along with an estimated 4,000 spectators to the Boroughbridge Road venue in late July and proceeds from the event have now been shared between seven deserving causes.
Principal recipients ✨
Yorkshire Air Ambulance received £4,000 and the same amount was donated to MIND, the mental health charity.
The other recipients, who received £500 apiece were, Martin House children’s hospice, The RNLI, the Motor Neurone Disease Dales Branch, the Dodgy Walnut Prostrate Cancer group and Friends of Spa Gardens, which will use its funding towards the cost of staging the annual free to enter Winter Wonderland Christmas fair.
Phill Greetham, the chairman of Ripon Classic Car Gathering, told Tim Flanagan of the Rejoicing in Ripon Blog: “As a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers, all proceeds in excess of our modest operating costs are given to charity and local good causes.
Benefiting tens of thousands of people💛
“This year, thanks to the tremendous work of our committee and with assistance from the Ripon Racecourse team, we raised £10,500 for distribution to seven fantastic organisations whose services within the community benefit tens of thousands of people.”
Phill added: “We have now donated more than £200,000 raised from staging 31 of our gatherings and that money has been very well spent.”
