Egg‑citing Easter activities at Ripon’s tremendous trio of museums

Ripon’s egg‑ceptional trio of museums will host a cracking selection of Easter‑themed activities during the upcoming school holidays 🐰✨.

Starting from Saturday 28 March, the family‑focused programme—perfect for all ages seeking fun, creativity and a touch of history—will offer daily hands‑on activities, special workshops and live performances, all designed to spark visitors’ imaginations 🎨📜.

Highlights include Easter finger puppets at the Workhouse Museum and an egg treasure hunt with a crime‑solving twist at the Courthouse Museum 🔍🥚.

Ripon Museums Director Alexa Vernon told Tim Flanagan of the Rejoicing in Ripon blog:

“Our trio of museums offer a thought‑provoking look at the lives of the poor and lawless in Victorian times—but that doesn’t mean they aren’t fun! With so many activities taking place over the Easter holidays, it’s a fantastic day out for the whole family.

Visitors can uncover real‑life stories of people who faced the harsh Victorian justice system by rolling up their sleeves for our ‘Get to Work!’ trail and can try their hands at six different tasks carried out by Victorian inmates.

Children can become junior detectives at the Prison and Police Museum, taking fingerprints and collecting clues just like a real‑life officer.”

Alexa added:

“We’re also at the start of a landmark season which, this summer, will see the completion of the £3.3 million renovation of the residential block at the Workhouse complex in Allhallowgate.

The work, which will give access to parts of the building that have never been seen by the public, has been made possible through funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The countdown continues to the unveiling of our exciting new visitor experience under the theme Inspiration for a Fairer Future.

In the meantime, as the major refurbishment nears completion, we look forward to welcoming visitors to all three of our heritage attractions.”
